Following the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on corruption charges related to the excise policy case, the United States has stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and has urged for a "fair" and "transparent" legal process.

A spokesperson for the US State Department emphasized the importance of ensuring that Chief Minister Kejriwal receives due process under the law. This statement echoes similar sentiments expressed by Germany earlier in the week, which called for an "impartial" trial for Kejriwal.

Germany's stance had drawn a strong response from India, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoning the German deputy envoy to convey India's protest. The MEA criticized Germany's remarks as interference in India's judicial process and deemed any "biased assumptions" unwarranted.

In response to India's protest, the US State Department referred inquiries to the German Foreign Ministry for comments on their discussions with the Indian government. Meanwhile, India's embassy in Washington has yet to provide a response to requests for comment regarding the State Department's reaction.

Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sparked international attention, with both Germany and the United States emphasizing the importance of upholding principles of judicial independence and democratic norms in his case. As the legal proceedings unfold, all eyes remain on ensuring a fair and impartial trial for the Delhi Chief Minister.
